The End of an Era and the (hopeful) Start of a New One
September 28, 2005
I have made a conscious decision that going forward from this moment on, the Era of Elena is officially over. Although she has been prevalent in this space pretty much since its inception oh so long ago on Blogger, it is time to finally close that chapter once and for all. The Era of Elena is over. Its time to hopefully start a new one, and I got a good feeling so far. Details below, a litte further down, but just read, its easier.
Jen and I hungout again last night, doing absolutely nothing exciting. I swear, I think its a world record for two people to reach a comfort zone. She came over last night, I did my laundry and ironed as much as I could stand, and she organized some stuff she needed to do for the railroad job she wants. No dinner, no movie, just sitting around the house, chilling. There was some chocolate cream pie my mom made in the fridge that we indulged on a little, but thats about it. But even doing that was OK. Good company, you know?
When I spoke to Jen yesterday before she came over she said she couldn't wait and that she already called Elena to tell her that she was hanging out with me. According to her, Elena thought it was hilarious, small world and all, and really talked me up, saying what a great guy I was, affectionate, kind... all that good stuff. So thanks for that. I realize that there really isn't anything bad she could say about me, because in the grand scheme of things, she did a lot worse to me than I ever did to her.
So just out of curiousity I called Elena earlier today and she said again how funny she thought the situation was and that she couldn't be happier for me because Jen is a great girl. Elena then said that we should all go out on a double date, as we're all friends now and that she is in fact seeing someone new. So good for her, but the double date? Bad idea if you ask me. I think, and I have agreement from a lot of people around me, that its finally time to stop talking to Elena. If Jen wasn't to rekindle a friendship with her, thats cool, but I'd like to be excluded from as much as that as possible. Its just too weird, way too weird, you know?
Here it is one last time. The Era of Elena is over and I shall try my best to never mention her name again in this space. If I do, feel free to yell at me. I'd deserve it. And here's to hoping that a new Era with a new girl is in fact beginning and that it will be good. I do have a good feeling.
This Small World Stuff Has To Stop
September 27, 2005
Who knew Long Island was such a small place? Today, I head over to this pizza place I hit about once a week for lunch. As I walk in I notice this guy wearing a polo shirt with a logo on it. It says Assured Technology and I pause, because that was the name of the company I used to work for when I did consulting part time. I order my two slices of BBQ chicken pizza (its so good) and turn around and sure enough, my old boss is sitting there eating his lunch. So of course I said his name, he looked up in shock and surprise and we did the whole catch up thing. It was nice to see him again and see that he's doing well. He said his wife was pregnant after trying for awhile, so I congratulated him on that. The usual catch up talk followed, along with talk of the NY Jets, and their injured QB (Damn you Chad Pennington and your shoulder!)
It was nice to run into him, but damn, this stuff has to stop. What's next? Who the hell am I going to run into tomorrow? I can't wait to see!
It's A Small World After All
Those little animatronic kids singing on that annoying ride in Disney World, although scary, are correct. It is a small world. Sometimes too small. But in the end, it all works out OK, so thats a bonus. I'll try to explain the best I can.
It all starts out a little over a year ago at the party my brother threw last summer when my parents were away. His friend Jason had a new girlfriend, Robyn, that he brought over, and Robyn brought a really delicious crumb type cake with her, from a bakery I had known because I had the stuff on occasion at Elena's. So I asked her where she was from and she said East Northport. I asked what high school she went to and she said the same high school I knew Elena went to. I asked if she knew her and she knew of her, so small world.
Cut to the present day where Jen, the girl I went out with Friday and again last night, has parents that live in East Northport. So I start putting two and two together, and ask Jason to ask his girlfriend if she knws her and if she went to high school together. Turns out she did, so it turns out there is a good chance that Jen knows either Elena or her sisters. The entire rest of the day I debate bringing up this particular topic of conversation later in the evening when I see Jen.
So last night she came by my place, I gave her a quick tour and we headed to the restaurant for dinner. On the way she said she ran into an old friend that she hadn't seen since high school on her train ride home. Her long lost friend was coming back from going to three auditions in NYC, as she's trying to be an actress. Needless to say I stopped walking and my jaw almost dropped to the ground. She asked what was wrong, and I said I think you're talking about my ex, and in fact, she provided Elena's full name as proof. I couldn't help but laugh and confirm that she was indeed my ex-girlfriend. Thankfully Elena didn't say anything bad about me, and according to Jen, the fact that I dated her for almost two years speaks well for me, as she knows Elena's family and knows they're selective. So in the end I guess it worked out for the best. Jen said she may try to reconnect with Elena, and if so, that could be very interesting indeed.
The rest of the evening was nice. We had a great meal at this Italian place around the corner from my house. Walked back to my place and hung out there for awhile. Everyone was in the kitchen, including Seth who was out on the Island for the night and stayed the night, so it was cool to just sit around and chill out with everyone. That's where the details end my friends, as I'm going to adopt Seth's philosophy when it comes to women, and its that he doesn't kiss and tell!
Exhausting Weekend
September 26, 2005
Note to self, bringing Keyser to my new place to stay the night is not the best idea when trying to get a good nights sleep. He would not sleep, or stay asleep for that matter. Every hour or so he'd wake up, jump out of my bed and start whining. He's lucky he's so damn cute, because I was ready to kill him. Other than that, he did great at my house. My mom said when they finally took him home he collapsed at about 8 PM and wouldn't move for the rest of the night. I don't know what I did to tire him out, but he did the same to me, except with no reverse effect. I'm exhausted, but for the life of me I could not fall asleep last night. I kept tossing and turning, and had all sorts of weird stuff running through my head. Honestly, my head hurts just thinking about it.
It really sucks getting no sleep two nights in a row because I have tentative plans to go on a second date with Jen tonight. Tentative because I need to call her on my way home from work to finalize just what we're doing for date #2. I know I should just go home and sleep, but I had a good time with her and would really like to see her again. I have an even better feeling about everything now too. At the end of our date Friday I said I wanted to go out again and she agreed. We talked briefly on Saturday and I called her again on Sunday night, in which she was asking me about my plans for the week. I said I had none other than work, laundry and practicing the guitar. I asked her what her plans for the week were. She said work and studying (she's trying to get a job with the Long Island Rail Road, so I guess that involves studying a lot of rail road terminology) but she said she'd need study breaks, and that she'd like me to one of them. I'm taking that as a good sign.
So thats about it. Don't know what we're going to do tonight. Maybe the old cliche'd dinner and a movie, or movie and then dinner. Who knows. Hopefully we'll have a good time again and this could be the start of something, because I like her, and I'm sick of trying to meet people and going on dates that suck. Here's to hoping!
Weekend Fun So Far
September 24, 2005
Its only Saturday morning and already this weekend is shaping up to be some good stuff. Lets hope the rest of it pans out as well. I got home from work on Friday and the house looked empty. I knew that all my roommates were hitting a bar in the area for happy hour, so I called Shari, only to realize that the fact that the cell phone that was left on the kitchen counter ringing at the same time I was calling her was no coincidence. So either she left her cell behind, or she was still in the house. I went up to her room, and the door was closed. I knocked, but no answer, so I figured I wouldn't barge in, as thats rude. So I called up my next roommate, Karen, and this is the exchange that basically went down.
Me: "Hi Karen."
Karen: "Who is this?"
Me: "It's Matt."
Karen: "Matt who?"
Me: "Your roommate."
Karen: "It doesn't sound like Matt."
Me: "Trust me, I'm Matt... where are you guys?"
Karen: "Babylon" (That's the town we live in)
Me: "I figured that, but where exactly?"
Karen: "This isn't Matt. It doesn't sound anything like Matt."
Me: "Trust me, its me."
Karen: "What's our private joke then?"
Me: "I have no idea."
Karen: "WHO IS THIS?"
Me: "It's Matt, I LIVE WITH YOU!"
Karen: "Oh, MATT! I thought you were another Matt I knew. I'm a little drunk at the moment, sorry."
I then proceeded to get the name and location of where they were, a convenient ten minute walk or so down a road or two. In the meantime I also made plans to meet a girl in town for dinner at 8 PM, so I figured if I got a few beers in before hand I'd be adequately loosened up to handle a blind, first date.
I killed almost two hours drinking about three beers before I headed down the road to the restaurant I told the girl to meet me at. Have I mentioned how much I love my town? We live in such a quaint little village. Everything we could ever really need is within walking distance and its really pretty and nice. Love it.
So, I met the girl, her name is Jen, for dinner and although being a first date and a blind date at that, it was a little weird at first, but I think we both loosened up and had a good time. We both didn't really eat much, she had like a house salad and I a Buffalo chicken quesadilla that I half ate. The rest is sitting in my fridge as leftovers. We took a walk around town for a bit, then I walked her back to her car, we hugged goodnight and she left. But we'll definitely hang out again. I have a good feeling about this one. Finally! Something goes my way. And I shall try my best not to mess it up, as I'm actually attracted to this girl, something that can't be said about the last 3 girls I've gone out on dates with.
Plans for today include heading over to my parents house. Taking Keyser for a bath which I'm told, and believe, that he desperately needs. Then I have my guitar lesson, then I'll grab some lunch and depending upon if my parents come out to see my place on Sunday, I may take Keyser with my for the night. We shall see how he acts. I'm a little scared to bring him around my house, but hopefully he'll behave. I hope.
Sunday my parents are supposed to come down to see the place, and probably take me out to dinner. That should be nice, as they've never seen the place from the inside, and its really nice. I love it, and I should, since I have to live here for at least another eleven months.
So thats about it. Hope everyone else has a good weekend!
Blame Canada
September 22, 2005
It seems that everything's gone wrong since Canada came along! Sorry, couldn't help myself from quoting, which according to one of my film professors, one of the greatest movie musicals of all time. That's right, I'm talking about South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. Funny stuff. Anyway, I blame Canada for getting me sick, which is the current state of my health. Before I left for Montreal I was nursing a little cold, which I had basically kicked aside from som residual congestion in the form of a lot of phlegm that needed to be coughed up. Seth can attest to that one, and just how nasty it was. So I felt fine the whole time we were up there, aside from the congestions. Of course, by the time I come home on Sunday, I'm feeling 5,000 times worse. I blame it on Canada and all the screaming I did at two concerts and all the smoke filled bars we were in. I don't think they've quite caught up to a lot of other cities and countries where smoking is banned in bars. According to Seth, you can't smoke in bars in Dublin, and you know the Irish don't screw around when it comes to drinking and smoking, and well, drinking.
So for the past few days I've felt like crap. I've been taking cough syrup and some prescription nasal spray (I thank my lucky stars that my mom works for a doctor sometimes) and slowly but surely I'm getting better. I really want to feel better for the weekend, as its no fun being sick on the weekend. My roommates are going to happy hour at a local bar on Friday and I definitely want to join them, but don't want to make myself worse, so I'll have to walk that delicate line. I should be OK. I also hope to meet up with a girl for a drink at some point this weekend. So yes, potential date action is in full effect. I had to cut ties to the girl I went on the date with in the city a few weeks ago, because although we had fun, there was just no attraction, and you need that. I don't want to sound shallow, but I think you should be physically attracted to the person you date. That doesn't mean I need a supermodel. I personally prefer cute to hot any day of the week, but there should still be an attraction there. Plus I wouldn't want to date someone that lived in the city. The cost of train tickets and metro cards would kill me. So hopefully meeting for a drink will go well. I'm not going to get my hopes up too much, but we shall see.
Anyway, back to work for one more hour, then home to get a much needed haircut. There's this posh place across the street that give men's haircuts starting at $30. I've never paid that much for a haircut. Most of the time its like $11 plus tip, but I'm curious what $30 gets me in the way of hair styling. I'll be sure to let you know once I do. I hope they take walk ins, otherwise I'll be walking across the street to the barbershop on the corner!
Montreal: The Aftermath
September 19, 2005
To start off talking about my Montreal trip, there is one thing to keep in mind. Seth and I bought these tickets to see Pearl Jam back in late April. That, in my opinion, is a very long time to have to wait to see a concert, and to generally take a few days off and actually go somewhere on vacation, even if you're driving. So, with that in your head, I shall say this, it was well worth the wait, as MONTREAL KICKED ASS!!!
Seth and I left from his place in the city at about 7:15 or so and made it up to Montreal at about 1:45 PM. So about 6.5 hours to drive up there, a lot less than everyone was telling me it would take. And that was this stopping once for gas and some Dunkin Donuts, and a 10-15 delay caused by getting pulled over by a NY State Trooper for speeding. Yes, I got a ticket for going 80 in a 65, which I thought was nice of him, since I blew past him doing at least 85. Thankfully I can just plead guilty by mail and await my fine. I got the ticket a little north of Albany, which was about 2.5 hours or so from the city. So it would really have sucked if I had to go back up there just to appear in court and pay a fine. The PBA card Brett gave me didn't help, as the trooper asked if I was an officer of the court, I said no, then he asked why I had it, I said my best friend is a police officer, and then I repeated that line when he asked how I got the card. He then asked why I gave it to him and I said it was stuck to my license in my wallet, which is sort of true. So that was fun, and annoying.
We got to Montreal and parked at our hotel, but our room wasn't ready. So we grabbed a map and headed to the Centre Bell, or Bell Center (Home of the Montreal Canadiennes hockey team, thys sure love their hockey) and picked up our Pearl Jam tickets, which were on the floor, maybe 25 rows back center stage. We also noticed a few days before leaving that the White Stripes were playing in the same place two days later, so while Seth was picking up the Pearl Jam tickets, I bought us two for the White Stripes. Tickets in hand we headed for a late lunch/early dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, the only chain restaurant we were to visit during our stay, a rule Seth was big on sticking to. Had a few beers, got a nice buzz, then headed back to the hotel to check-in. Hung out in the hotel for awhile then headed to this bar that was host to a pre and post show meetup for Pearl Jam fans. Drank a little more then headed to the arena.
We thankfully missed the opening act, Sleater Kinney, as we got there and they were setting up the stage for Pearl Jam. They took the stage a little bit before 9 and didn't leave until almost 11:30. They kicked some serious ass. They were loud, and the crowd was even louder. Tons of energy in the building, thats for sure. I was a little ticked that they didn't play my favorite song, Rearviewmirror, but they had a really good setlists, with a few tunes I'd never heard live before. They put on a really great and energetic first set, dedicating the show to Johnny Ramone who had passed away a year earlier to the date. The first encore was a few cover tunes, and mostly acoustic stuff, a lot more mellow, until they closed with a kick ass version of Alive. The second encore just rocked as they played another six songs or so and closed with The Who's Baba O'Riley and Yellow Ledbetter. All in all, an amazing show. Definitely ranks up there with either the second best Pearl Jam show I've been to, or maybe even tied for the first along with the one I went to with Elena after we'd been dating for a month.
After the show we were exhausted, so we just grabbed some Ben and Jerry's and walked back to the hotel. We slept in the next morning, grabbed some lunch at this great place right down the road from the hotel and started to explore the city. We took a walking tour of Old Montreal, which was really beautiful. Took a break to drink a few more beers, then headed back to downtown to peruse some of the shops. The weather wasn't the greatest and there was always the threat of rain, if it wasn't raining itself. That night we grabbed some really good food at this micro-brewery on this main shopping street, then went to the movies to see Wedding Crashers, which was still funny on second viewing. After the movie we hit a strip club across the street, which was OK. The strippers weren't the best looking, although some were better than others. Fun fact about Montreal strip clubs, it seems that while you're getting your $10 lap dance, you can touch the stripper most anywhere you please, as long as you use your hands and except for the one obvious spot, everything is within limits.
The next morning we grabbed some breakfast at the same place we had lunch at the day before and just went walking, trying to find this music store, which turned out to sell only techno stuff, so we sought out another, which we eventually found and browsed for awhile. We walked around this huge park thats at the top of this huge hill at the top of the town for awhile, before we headed back down and to the hotel to rest for a minute or so. Next we hit the museum of contemporary art for a little bit. Unfortunately they were between exhibitions, so they only had their permanent collection on display, and there wasn't that much. By the time we were ready to leave it was pouring. So instead of walking we hopped on the Metro, the subway system, and took it two stops down to be closer to the Bell Center. By then it stopped raining so we grabbed some Italian food, hit another bar for a pre-show beer, then went to see the White Strips. They put on a good show. Very energetic is one way to describe them. Although most of their songs sound similar, but it was still good. Grabbed some Ben and Jerry's again and went back to the hotel.
Woke up early on Sunday, grabbed breakfast again at the cafe down the street, checked out, loaded up the car and drove home. Took about 6.5 hours again to get into the city and once we were there traffic was horrible. I dropped Seth off about a block from his place and fought traffic to get cross-town to the Queens Midtown Tunnel and back to Long Island. Fought more traffic before finally making it home, 8 hours after leaving Canada.
All in all it was a great trip. A nice little vacation which was just what I needed. Unfortunately I now have to work the first full week I've had to in a long while, and am feeling a little under the weather as my throat is still sore from last week. And just a reminder, Pearl Jam kicks ass!
Montreal Here I Come!
September 14, 2005
I just need to get through the afternoon of work, which should honestly be quite easy, since I'm about to head out to lunch, and that always helps kill time and then its off to the city to Seth's place. I shall stay the night, and first thing in the morning, before 7 AM, we're leaving for Montreal to see Pearl Jam!!! Can you tell just how excited I am? I swear, I don't think I've been this excited in a long time. Too long in fact. I've been looking forward to this since way back in April when we first got tickets. Thats a long time to wait for a concert! But its almost upon us, and all we have to do is get there, which shouldn't be too hard, and should be quite enjoyable. Seth and I have never taken a road trip like this before, so it'll be fun to.
Nothing else of note going on. One of my roommates is giving me a little bit of annoyance, but other than that the living situation continues to be great. The roommate in question is the same that tried to steal my room and rope me into hanging blinds around the house (I did 2 out of 7, and that was all I was going to do). I put the cable in my name, because I knew what kind of cable services I wanted to get and a general idea for what everyone else wanted. So I ordered it and figured we'd split it pretty evenly, except for the extra $10 I would pay to get a cable box with a built in DVR/TiVo thing (which is awesome by the way). This roommate was a little pissed at first, but softened up when she asked for a cable box (just a standard one) in her room, and I obliged by making the call (granted the thing doesn't work too well and the cable company has to come out on Saturday to take a look, and she won't even be there, so Shari has to stick around and wait for them). So I get this bill in the mail for like $30, which I think is for the cable modem. So I collect from everyone, and she has the nerve to say to me that since she doesn't have a computer she shouldn't have to pay for the cable modem. I said fine, whatever, but was pissed. I better not see her on anyone else's then, thats for damn sure, or I'm going to collect some money! The more I thought about it, the more it got to me. I haven't bought one item of food for the house, nor do I really plan to so I can stick to the diet, so I don't really cook or use the stove or other appliances. So by that same token, since I don't use it, I shouldn't have to pay a portion of the gas bill, right? It sounds ridiculous if you ask me, and I'd never act like that, but its the same thing she's doing. It just ticks me off. Then she leaves a note on my door to call about the drains in the bathroom. If it bugs you so much, you call! Thankfully I ran into the caretaker as he was walking his dog this morning and told him about it. We'll see when it gets fixed.
Alright, enough bitching and complaining. Positive thoughts from here on out. I'm going to Montreal to see Pearl Jam! Nothing can bring me down (unless they suck, but I doubt it!)
Adios people!
New Look
September 12, 2005
Its almost perfect timing if you ask me. As I get ready to leave on Thursday for the road trip I've been looking forward to before the summer either started, to go to Montreal to see my favorite band of all-time, Pearl Jam, I have a new look here. Many thanks go out to Bec at Ciao! My Bella for all the work she put in to designing the whole thing. I think it looks great, how about you?
Anyway, the weekend was good. The date went really well, so we'll see what happens on that front. I didn't get home until about 4 AM, so I spent most of Satruday sleeping. I honestly woke up at 11 AM, got ready for my guitar lesson, went to my lesson, grabbed some lunch then went to my parents to see Keyser. I watched some TV there, took a nap and went home. Once home I proceeded to take another long nap and didn't wake up until about 9:30 PM.
I spent most of Sunday just relaxing around the house. I tried to get my parents to come over to see the place from the inside, something they haven't done yet, and take me out to dinner as well, but that wasn't happening. I watched about half of the Jets game, and had to turn it off because they sucked so much. I spent the rest of the day watching House on DVD, then some HBO at night, then to bed.
So its going to be a short week of work, as I'm taking Thursday and Friday off to go to Montreal. Have I mentioned how much I can't wait for it? I'm just hoping it doesn't take long to drive there. Its about 375 miles, which I think we can do in 6 hours or so, others have told me 8, my guitar teacher 10 (that didn't make me happy). I'll let you know just how long it does take. Anyway, lets hope these next three days fly by, because, I mean, do I really have to explain it any further? Its Pearl Jam people... enough said!
Friday Full Of Promise
September 9, 2005
I'm still not going to talk too much about it for fear of jinxing anything or getting my hopes way too up, only to be disappointed, but I'm psyched for my date tonight. Scared and nervous too, but that'll pass after some alcohol is consumed with dinner. Thankfully the date is in the city and the train station is about a half mile from my new place, so no driving, only walking is involved. I'll try give a full recap as soon as possible afterwards. But wish me luck anyway.
The living situation is still good. Although I got another dose of women talking about birth control and other femal bodily functions last night. I guess if I get anything out of this experience, it'll be way too much information than I ever wanted to know about the opposite sex. Thankfully the conversation only lasted about the length of one commercial break during a TV show I was watching with one of my roommates.
Later in the evening, for the purposes of demonstration only, I hung one and only one set of blinds in the living room, just to show everyone else how its supposed to bu done. Now I'm done hanging those things. As Shari said to me, we (meaning she and I) have already done enough for the house and really shouldn't be doing much more. My other roommate, the one who asked me to help hang the blinds in the bathroom and then proceeded to walk away, is just clueless about this stuff, or just lazy, I don't know. I asked her to help me move the couch out of the way so I wouldn't have to stand on it to screw in the mounting brackets and either she didn't hear me, or chose to ignore me, because she just stood there while I moved the couch, and then sat on it while I strained to get the blinds hung. Nice, huh?
I guess for the sake of clarity, I should give my roommates names, since I'll probably be referring to them so much. First names only of course. I've already spoken at length about Shari, who is Seth's (one of my two best friends) girlfriend. Her and I get along fine and we honestly have done plenty for the house already. Next up is Karen, who works at the same school as Shari, but she's a guidance counselor whereas Shari is the school psychologist. Lastly we have Ali, short for Alison, who is friends with Karen. Ali also works as a guidance counselor for a public school, but in a different district. They're all lucky in that they work so much more closer to the house than I do, because even though the distance of my commute has been cut in half, it still takes awhile, as traffic sucks.
Alright, enough complaining. I'm going to concentrate on getting ready, mentally and physically for my date. Wish me luck again! Adios!
Random Bits of Information
September 8, 2005
There is no coherence going on here at the moment, so this post will just be some random bits of info about whats going on at the moment. Come to think of it, aren't most posts like that anyway? I think so.
The new place is good. Although out of the three mornings I've had to go to work while living there, only one I've gotten in the shower when I'm supposed to. I think that'll change as I explained to my roommate who was in there when I woke up that I woke up at 7 and needed to get in there. Honestly, the system is supposed to be one girl gets it at 6:15 - 6:30, the next from 6:30 to 6:45 and the third from 6:45 to 7:00, and then me from 7 on since I'm the last to leave, and sadly, require the most time in the bathroom. Lets see how things go tomorrow. Since I've been living there I've been 15 minutes late to work twice, and 15 minutes early once. So it almost evens out.
OK, first instance of where living with 3 women is going to be oh so much fun. Last night it was just me and my one roommate for a little bit and she asks me to help her hang the mini-blinds she bought for the bathroom, which translated into me hanging the miniblinds in the bathroom. I drew the line at doing the ones for the kitchen and living room though. One set was enough, and it was honestly in the most important place. The bathroom window was right above the toilet, and since I'm the only one who stood to use it, it left me feeling a little exposed, to say the least. Second instance was later in the evening we were all sitting in the living room watching some stupid reality show and one girl asks if anyone's been to a dermatologist regularly. I said I've gone on occasion as needed, but never on a regular basis. Someone asked why and she said she's had really bad acne since going off the pill. I said, "Do I need to get up and leave right now?" Weird. Third instance, there was a copy of the pocket Kama Sutra on the kitchen table and I asked whose it was. Someone said it was Shari's, Seth's girlfriend. Ewww. Too much information there.
Enough about that. In other news, Coldplay kicked some makor ass. Next to U2, it was the best concert I've been to all summer. And thats saying a lot. They played for well over an hour and a half and they just sounded awesome. Great setlist, although there was a song or two I wished I could've heard. But I'm not complaining. I've been meaning to see them live for years, and I'm glad I got the chance to. The opening was the best, with "Square One" the first song off their new one, X & Y. In the background on the video monitors was this huge digital clock display, that was counting down to the part where the song really rocks, and when it hit zero I was in heaven. My favorite part of one of my favorite songs on the album, and it was the first song played.
So I'm really looking forward to the weekend, just because everything has been so crazy for the past few days. I haven't really had the time to practice, which pisses me off a little. Thankfully I won't have a lesson next week, so maybe this week we can just song out, and I'll practice the exercises I have for another two weeks, as I think they'll be really helpful.
And lastly, I'm not going to say too much about this, because I don't want to jinx it or get my hopes up prematurely. Wish me luck, I have a date tomorrow night!
That's all. I'm out!
Almost There
September 6, 2005
This day has been dragging and all I want to do is leave and go see Coldplay. Please, why can't I just leave and go see Coldplay?! 20 more minutes, so I guess it isn't all bad. I'm really psyched to see them. I've been looking over some of their previous setlists from previous shows on the tour and they open with the first track off their new album, called "Square One" and its honestly one of my favorite songs on the CD. So I'm really psyched to see them.
So, the bathroom situation was a little iffy this morning. I was under the impression that everyone would pretty much be on their way out the door by the time I woke up, but that wasn't the case today as I guess since its the first day of school, they had meetings so they could be late. I didn't get in the bathroom until about 7:45, and I left the house at about 8:30 and made it to work only about 10 or 15 minutes late. Hopefully that won't happen too much. I was assured this morning. Lets hope they stick to their word. Honestly, everything about the house is awesome, except the bathroom, and only the fact that there's one. We have a whole list of things that need fixing, but most of them are minor, so hopefully it won't be a big issue to get it all taken care of. The big thing is the front door lock and the crapshoot involved in getting keys copied that work. Other than that, its little things like the bathroom door is a pain to lock, someone's closet door gets stuck, one light in the bathroom is out and we can't figure out how to take the fixture apart to fix it.
Alright, time to go change for Coldplay and get the hell out of here. I can't wait! Adios people!
Back To Work
Well, so much for the notion that by the time I wake up all my roommates will be already on their way to work. Its 7:30 in the morning and I'm still waiting to get into the bathroom. Thankfully I don't have to be at work until 9, and if I leave at 8:30 I should make it on time. I hope. If not, its not the end of the world, thats for sure. I'll just blame it on the roomies, not knowing what time to leave in a new place and just generally having a hard time getting up and going to work after almost a week of not having to.
Coldplay tonight and I'm psyched! Between that and Pearl Jam next week this should be a good couple of weeks. I'm really looking forward to it. I've never seen Coldplay live and I've always wanted to. Now I have my chance, so that's cool.
Other than that, there really isn't much of anything to report, other than I'm still waiting to get into the bathroom. I have a feeling I need to get used to it.
First Night
September 3, 2005
So my first night in the new place went really well. I got completely unpacked sometimes yesterday afternoon. All my boxes were empty and all my stuff was stored somewhere. I have very little room to store anything else, so I'll just have to behave myself and not buy myself a lot of unnecessary shit. All that's really left is to alphabetize my DVD's, only because it bugs me that they're in no particular order. Randy came by to help me hang my speakers and run wires to hook up my home theatre system, which was really nice of him. I really need to do something nice as a way of saying thanks. Maybe I'll get him a gift card to someplace. I'll figure it out.
So the whole notion of sleeping later because Keyser isn't around to wake me up went right out the window this morning. First I woke up around 4:40ish, just because I'm used to Keyser waking me up then. Then, I rolled over at about 7 or so, opened my eyes and the sun was coming in right through my windows, which sucks. My room is technically a living room. There's no closet, and there are two doorways, on into the hall, the other into the kitchen, but only one door, until about sometime Thursday. Now I have two door, but only one locks. May have to do something about that. Anyway, the windows, there are 4, all along one wall and they're sort of bay windows. There are two right in the middle, and my bed is against that wall sticking straight out into the room. The other two windows are to the right and left of the two middle ones, just at an angle. So long story short, I need shades, and like today.
Going to be a busy day today, which makes me thankful that I'm all unpacked. I have to go home to my guitar lesson and to swipe my mom's SUV (They just got back from Hawaii today). Then its onto my aunts place to get her kitchen table, then back here to unload the table, then probably back home to give my mom her truck back. Maybe I could swing it that they come here and check the place out and just take my car here. That'd work out nicely. We shall see.
OK, so its like 9 AM, my other two roommates are moving in at some point today I believe. I should probably get in the shower and get dressed before they get here, just because I don't want to walking around in a towel when they get here. Thankfully my room's second door (The old one) is right next the kitchen and bathroom. Oh, and Shari has a bathroom scale. It'll be fun torturing myself with that one!
Have a great Saturday everyone!
Moved In!
September 2, 2005
There are two things I'm not doing for a very long time. One, is moving. Two, is going to two concerts while in the midst of moving. I am so exhausted, but I'm so glad that I'm finally here, completely unpacked and settled in. All my IKEA furniture is put together and my room is setup in a way that maximizes the open space in the room. I even managed to get full use out of the two doors in my room, as it was just odd that I was trying to block one. And, there is now a door where there was no door before, which is awesome. I'm just chilling in my room at the moment, watching some House on DVD, through my brand spanking new home theatre in a box system, which is also cool. Seth and Shari are out shopping for some food for dinner. They're BBQing, but I'm not in the mood for that, so I may just go grab so takeout or something.
My older brother, although sometimes a pain in the ass, was crazy helpful, you wouldn't believe. While I was waiting for the movers, he headed over to the house to install my AC, put together my TV stand. Once I got here with the movers, he then put together my armoire and helped Ron, my parents friend who is the carpenter who I'm also eternally grateful to, with all the other stuff he needed to do around. Rand came back today to help me hang the speakers and run the wires for the home theatre system. I'm so happy, I can't even describe it. My room is awesome, the house is cool, although hot with no AC, and all is good. Now I just need a woman next to me, but in time that'll come.
Alright, I'm out to go grab some food or something. Adios people.
Waiting for the Movers
September 1, 2005
I don't know what would take longer, waiting for these guys to show up or for Godot. Ha! I crack myself up. Well, I'm all packed and ready to go. I loaded up my mom's SUV with some stuff, namely the important things, like my air conditioner, new TV stand, TV, home theatre system (I splurged and treated myself to one yesterday, my roomies are going to love me!) guitar and other odds and ends. Everything else is all packed up, dismantled and waiting to be loaded up and moved on out! I just spoke with Shari as we're using the same movers, and she said it looks like they're finishing up with her now and then they'll come over here to get my stuff. Fun. I don't think I'm going to get much accomplished in the unpacking department today as I'm leaving this afternoon for a concert, Jimmy Eat World and Green Day. I'm really psyched, just really tired from last night's concert, Our Lady Peace, who kicked some serious ass!
Great show. They really rock live. It was a small venue, so we were close and people weren't acting like assholes, which is always nice. They played like 8 songs off their new album, which just came out Tuesday, the day before the show. So I tried to listen to it as much as possible to get ready for it. They were just really good, I was really impressed. Probably next to U2, the best show I've seen this year. But wait, Pearl Jam in Montreal in two weeks! Can't wait for that one, thats for sure. I've been looking forward to it all summer long.
Alright, time to sit around and wait some more. I'd go lay down in my comfortable as you can imagine bed, but its in pieces at the moment.
