Typical
September 24, 2007
Title courtesy of the greatest new band I've heard in quite awhile, called Mute Math. Go pick up their self-titled debut release, you'll love it, I guarantee it! And, the song "Typical" rocks, I've been cranking it on my iPhone at the gym and it really gets me moving on the elliptical.
So my weekend was pretty typical. I have to admit it was one of those good weekends. Nothing major going on, but enough to keep me occupied and still allow me to rest and relax from an exhausting week in the city. Friday night I hit the gym after class, showered, shaved and then heading back to my old hood of Babylon to meet Rob and his girlfriend Anne for dinner and drinks at our old favorite, the Post Office Cafe. We lived right behind the place, so it was the de-facto go to spot whenever we wanted to grab a good bite to eat or a few beers. I drank a little too many pints of Guinness and maybe ate a few too many wings, but other than that, it was a really good time. I hadn't seen Rob in about a month, since we moved my bed out of the house and we saw Velvet Revolver and Alice In Chains. It was an early evening since we were all exhausted. I ended up leaving a little after 9 and got home and pretty much passed out from exhaustion and alcohol.
Saturday morning I woke up bright and early and hit the gym to go spinning. I swear, I never sweat so much in my entire life as when I'm riding one of those damn stationary bikes and trying my best to follow the instructor. Its a great workout though, and I'm glad I keep going as much as I can. After the gym I headed home, showered and got ready to take Keyser to the vet for his annual checkup. He's in perfect health, which is always a good thing. The only thing to be concerned about are these fatty tumors he has. I had them tested back in January and they're completely benign, but he's got a new one in his armpit. The vet said thats the one to watch for since if it grows a lot, it'll force him to kick his leg out and then he'd have problems and it'd have to be removed. We'll see how it goes. Right now its small, which is good. He doesn't act like it bothers him as he's the same dog he's always been. I spent the rest of Saturday doing a combination of watching TV, playing Halo 2, in anticipation of Halo 3 this week, and messing around on my computer. Saturday night I headed to Missy's parents house for dessert and then we went back to her place for the night. I also hit the gym at some point in between there again too.
Sunday we headed over to my parents house so Missy could help my mom finish up this cook book she put together for my brother's fiances bridal shower. While they were working on the book I went to the gym and worked on a PC that belongs to one of Missy's coworkers. I just reinstalled Windows XP Home on it, and ran some updates, but since it was an old piece of you know what it took forever. So I charged her $75, which she thought was cheap, which means next time I'll charge her more! We had a nice dinner with my parents on Sunday night and that was about it. More Halo, more TV and then I passed out. All in all, a good weekend.
I'm not sure what this week is going to bring, but hopefully it'll be an easy one. Next weekend looks to be busy. Friday night Missy and I are going to a pre-season hockey game at Madison Square Garden. Islanders vs. Rangers, which is always a big rivalry. We're going to another game later in the season, closer to my birthday which is also Isles vs. Rangers. That should be awesome. I've been to those games where the Islanders play, but never at the Garden. That should be awesome, again. Saturday is my brothers fiance bridal shower and bachelorette party. I will be spending that time getting drunk, eating wings and watching college football with Missy's dad and brother. I can't think of a better way to pass the time. I honestly can't wait until their wedding is over and done with. Bridezilla anyone?
Alright, thats enough for now. 54 minutes to quitting time. Peace.
Train In Vain

So I'm bored on the train and really need to use the bathroom, but unfortunately I'm not in a car with a restroom, so to kill time I'm blogging from my iPhone, which I still think is the coolest thing ever! The phone and the fact that I'm blogging from it.
Anyway, its been a crazy long week. I've been in NYC for four days straight for training and I have to admit, its been rough. The training wasn't too bad or complicated, it was more getting into and out of the city everyday. I had to catch a 6:34 AM train from my parents house to make it to class by 9 AM, and the trains home kind of suck too. My parents live way east of the city sobtge trains run few and far between, and the ride is long. Like really long. Add to that hittingbthe gym twice a day, plus physical therapy twice for my shoulder and arm, and you get an exhausted Matt.
I'm looking forward to a nice, quiet and relaxing weekend. I'm going to dinner with Rob tonight, seeing Missy tomorrow and doing very little else the rest of the weekend. I can't wait! Mostly so I can use a bathroom!
Other than that there is nothing to report really. I'm just tired. So peace for now people!
Holiday
Title is courtesy of Weezer and Green Day.
Ok, so I kind of fell off the map for awhile there, sorry! Its been a hectic few weeks, what with the Jewish Holidays and whatnot. In addition to being on holiday from blogging, I also took a break from tracking my progress, mostly because I ate way too much over the two day Jewish New Year! But I got back on track in a big way this week, even though I'm exhausted from it, and work. This weeks, really two weeks results are:
Down 1.5, for a total loss of 14, with 61 to go and I'm 19% of the way there!
More later as I'm in a class right now and blogging from my iPhone!
Down In It

My week has been crazy busy, between work, going into the city, hitting the gym. I've barely had two seconds to take care of things for myself. But now that the weekend is here, hopefully things will ease up and I can catch my breath. I hope so. Because I'm exhausted. But, all in all, it was a good week, I'm happy to report. The results are as follows.
I am down another 2.5 pounds, for a total loss of 12.5, with 62.5 to go. I am 17% to my goal. This week was tough. I really watched what I ate and hit the gym, but the scale just wouldn't budge as much as I hoped it would. I really need to do good this weekend and control myself and still try to work out. I know I say the same thing every Friday, but at some point I'll actually do it. So why not now?
Plans for the weekend consist of going to a party in the city at my friend Jason's apartment. He just moved into the place and has a new girlfriend, so its kind of a housewarming plus meet my new girl thing all rolled into one. It should be fun. The rest of the weekend is a blank slate, where I'm free to do whatever. Relaxing sounds like a good idea for all that free time.
Alright, back to work.
The Good Life
September 4, 2007
Title courtesy of Weezer off their album "Pinkerton." That CD came out in 1996, and I fondly remember listening to it practically non-stop my freshman year of college. Especially first semester. That, and for some reason Better Than Ezra's "Friction Baby" were in constant rotation in my CD players. Why? I don't know.
So I have to admit, I had a pretty damn good weekend. The rundown is like this. Friday night I organized a dinner out with my parents, my older brother and his fiance, my little brother, myself and MIssy for dinner for my parents 32nd wedding anniversary. The plan was for my older brother and I to split the bill, but then he and fiance showed up with a gift for my parents, and I felt bad about just getting them a card, so I decided to foot the bill for dinner. All $280 of it! (That was with the tip!) But it was worth it. It was some really good food, and a really nice time out. My dad even made a very sweet speech wishing me and my brother the long and happy marriage that he's had, and all that stuff. Needless to say we ate a lot and were stuffed. We went home and passed out soon after.
Missy and I overslept a little on Saturday morning, and realized at about 8:20 that we were going to miss our spinning class that we had been taking every Saturday morning for the past two weeks. At first we said forget it, but then I decided that I would at least get up and go to the gym. Then while I was getting ready I said I'd go and do spinning by myself, and eventually she got up and said she'd join me. We cut it a little close, but we made it in time for the 8:45 class. And it was a pretty damn good workout, once again. I always feel like I get a great workout, just on the amount that I sweat when I'm there, but I still always feel like I'm not working hard enough when I'm in there. I know that sounds weird, but thats just an odd feeling I get. So after spin we went back to my house where I showered, got dressed, ate a quick breakfast then headed back to her apartment quickly. She showered and ate there and then we headed upstate NY for a first birthday party for one of her college friends sons. That was nice, as I got to meet some of her friends I hadn't met yet, but we honestly spent more time in the car driving up there and back than we did at the party. But I took one for the team, so its OK. After we got back to my parents after the party her brother and his girlfriend met us at my parents and we all went out, with my little brother as well, to John Harvards for some food and beer. Of course I ate too much, again, and probably had a few too many beers, but it was a good time again.
I woke up Sunday at about 8 and headed to the gym for an hour while Missy slept. After the gym I packed some clothes and a few movies and we headed back to Missy's to be lazy bastards all Sunday. We managed to watch 2.5 movies, I fell asleep during the last half of one of them, and most of the third, but it was OK. Monday we went to her parents house for some BBQ and that was about it for the weekend. Nothing too exciting, but nothing bad either. So, like the title says, living the good life.
