A Day In The Life

March 18, 2009

Title courtesy of The Beatles.

A random sampling of one day of my life. Time frame is Sunday, from about 2:30 until about 4:30 the following Monday. OK, so its more than just 1 day, its actually 1 day plus 2 hours. Of those 26 hours, I think I spent like 8 of them in my car, driving to and from Newton, MA, a suburb of Boston. For work. Fun times all around. I was up there to do some work in a customer's data center up there in a co-location site. So I was all by myself... there was no one around. It was kind of fun, aside from the massive amounts of driving I had to do to get there and back. But its over and done with, and no more long car rides in my future. Although, I leave this Sunday for three days and two nights in Phoenix, AZ, for work. Traveling again. At least this trip the weather will be nicer than it was in Green Bay, WI. It better!

So Missy and I are officially on a mission to fine a Wii Fit to purchase at any Best Buy in the area. We have like $400 in Best Buy gift cards and really want one, but they're sold out all over the place, and it doesn't seem like any new stock is coming in any time soon. In the meantime, we borrowed my brother and sister-in-law's game and balance board. Its pretty fun. Not sure how great a work out it'll give you, but at least you spend time playing on your feet and moving than sitting on your ass while you play a game. Missy needs something to do ever since she messed up her toe a few weeks back. She's been completely sidelined for exercising and working out and she's starting to go a little stir crazy. Her podiatrist told her she has to keep taking is easy for another week and she proceeded to say before bed that she's thinking of spinning tomorrow. I gave her a big hell no, so hopefully she'll listen. I just feel bad because its kind of my fault that her toe is messed up. She hurt it when she fell down the stairs rushing to get out the door to the Jimmy Eat World concert. Although she fine a day or two afterward, the following week she was in a lot of pain and her toe was really swollen. And onto that her bad circulation and her foots kind of a mess. Hopefully she'll start healing soon.

Alright, that is all for now. Carry on.

All Along The Watchtower

March 11, 2009

Title courtesy of... take your pick. Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Dave Matthews Band... hell, even Pearl Jam covered it last time I saw them. Awesome song indeed.

I chose the title because I went to see Watchmen over the weekend in IMAX, which was pretty awesome. I'd only seen one other movie in IMAX before, and ironically enough if was the director of Watchmen's other well known movie, 300. But that one I saw in the city, and it felt like the IMAX screen was even bigger than the one I saw Watchmen at. Know, I'd read the book/graphic novel beforehand, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, although the ending kind of confused me a little bit. See the movie and you'll know what I'm talking about. The ending is a little bit changed in the movie, but the outcome is the same. I started reading the book on my honeymoon, so maybe I wasn't paying the closest attention to it, so I started reading it again after seeing the movie. I'm hoping to pick up on a lot more the second time around, and so far so good. Anyway, I definitely recommend the movie, if you're in the market for something a little different, and with superheroes!

Work has been pretty busy lately. I've been at a long term engagement for the past two and a half weeks, and I'll continue being there for the foreseeable future. At least until the end of the month, maybe longer. But so far so good, so I'm not complaining. At least it gets me out of the office and keeps me busy. All good things. I will be taking a break from this customer to go to Boston for all of one day on Sunday and into Monday, then the following week I'll be flying to Arizona on Sunday and coming home late Tuesday. Should be fun. I've never been there, so I'm curious to see what its like. And its always nice to get away for short bursts of time every so often. I have a feeling that it's going to be a lot warmer there than it was in Green Bay!

In house news we just signed a deal and put down a deposit for our central air conditioning system to be installed. Yay! The thought of going through summer without it was not very comforting. So now, we'll be in perfectly cool comfort all summer long! Also take into account our new heating system, and its a little bit crazy where we've plunked down a huge chunk of change into our home, HVAC. It's kind of funny. We show friends and family the house for the first time and we take them to the basement to show them our furnace, since that's probably the most expensive thing we've bought since we got the house! Now we can show them the A/C compressor outside, because that'll be even more expensive! Fun! But, its all needed. At least if you ask me.

Anyway, that is all for now. Keep it real people!

Excuse Me Mr.

March 3, 2009

Title courtesy of No Doubt. I heard they're reuniting for a tour this summer and possibly an album. That should be interesting. I saw them a few years ago with Blink-182, who announced at the Grammy's that they're also reuniting and recording, and it was a fun show. Kind of weird to be sitting in the crowd and singing along to "I'm Just a Girl." I definitely like No Doubt better than Gwen Stefani as a solo artist. So reunite away!

So, no excuses here. I've neglected the blog. I just feel like I don't have the time anymore, or that there isn't anything really interesting anymore to talk about. Its kind of all house all the time, you know? Its coming along nicely though. We just had the heating system replaced, and its definitely made an improvement on the comfort level all around, plus, we almost never hear the furnace chugging away. Now what I'm really hoping for, is a nice dent in our heating bill, because our first one was for nearly $600. Gotta love that natural gas, right? So much for it being cheaper. The new furnace is supposedly much more cost effective and energy efficient. It better be for all the dough we spent on it.

Work has been busy as well. I'm booked to head out to Arizona by the end of the month. Its nice to get away every so often. The work that I have to do at these various sites is pretty straight forward and simple, so its nice to just go away and not have any stress about the work, and to just be able to enjoy being away from it all. Every so often you need a break from the usual rhythm, you know?

Not much else has been going on. Missy and I went into the city last week for a concert. We saw Jimmy Eat World on their Clarity X 10 tour. It was basically a celebration of their 1999 album Clarity's tenth anniversary. So they were playing it in its entirety, which was really awesome to see live and in person. I'd seen them years ago, but they opened up for Green Day at Giant's Stadium, so to say that this show was a little more intimate is an understatement. But it was awesome. They ripped through the entire album and it was tight, to say the least. Then they did a six song encore of a few older tunes, and a few of their better known hits like Sweetness and The Middle. Missy got a kick out of that, because whenever she tries to sing that song in Rock Band, she horribly butchers the timing of the lyrics. It's funny, even though she'd kill me for saying that. Oh well.

Other than that, we had a massive snow storm the other night, which was a ton of fun digging out from. Thankfully my office closed due to the weather and I was spared from driving on the nasty roads to a customer. Missy of course had a snow day from school, so we spent the day baking cookies and bread in between bouts of shoveling. I'd seriously consider getting a snow blower if one, they weren't so expensive, and two, I know the second I get one it'll never snow bad enough to need it ever again. That's just fate, you know?

So, that is all for now. I'll try to have something to say a little more often than once a month. All apologies.
