Bad Day

October 29, 2009

Title courtesy of Fuel, not whoever wrote that crappy song that played at the end of that shitty show American Idol.

So, it was a pretty bad day yesterday for New York sports teams. The Yankees lose Game 1 of the World Series, and the Rangers get beaten by the crappy Islanders. Rough night, indeed.

Here's to hoping both teams can bounce back next game... Game 2 of the World Series tonight, Rangers play again Friday night in Minnesota, and I'm hoping Marian Gaborik is back by then... they need him!

Time to get ready for work... peace.

Super Baby

October 28, 2009

Title courtesy of Matthew Sweet off his album 100% Fun, which also brought us the awesome "Sick of Myself"

I know that a few weeks ago I promised more, and better quality pics of my niece, Gabrielle, or as we just call her, Gabby, but I've been lazy and lacking in that area. I spent some good quality time at my brother's house the other day, so that meant QT with Gabby too. I took the following picture while I was holding her. Adorable, right?

Gabby.jpg

My parents had left a little while earlier and Gabby had been put in her Pack and Play to lay down, and its kind of weird to be at their house when someone isn't holding her, so I asked if I could pick her up. I got a few cute shots of her. That one while she was sleeping a little on my arm. And the next one was in between a fit a hiccups that was the cutest thing I've ever witnessed!

Gabby 2.jpg

Cute right? She's awesome. We're trying to get in as much practice now, as it's less than three months before ours shows up. Can't wait!

Speaking of, there's an updated progress picture on Missy's belly over at the Oster Baby Blog, check it out!

Alright, I'm out... Let's go Yankees tonight (If they get the game in) and Let's go Rangers (first game of the season against the crappy Islanders!)

Alone

October 24, 2009

Title courtesy of Pearl Jam. They released a new album about a month ago and its pretty decent. The first four songs or so really rock, then it gets a little mellow. All in all, a good show. Short, but sweet.

So, as the title implies, I am all by my lonesome this weekend. Missy went with her mother to Florida to visit her grandparents. She figured now would be the best time to go before it gets too late in the pregnancy and she's not allowed to fly anymore. So, while the wife is away, I'll... do who knows what? I spent my evening last night eating some of the best BBQ on Long Island while drinking beer and watching The Big Bang Theory on my laptop. Tonight I plan on picking up some of the best beer in the world, John Harvard's Pumpkin Spice Ale, getting a buffalo chicken pizza from across the pizza place across the street and watching sports. Hopefully the Rangers can stop their 2 game slide and the Yankees can finish off the Angels and make it to the World Series, and go on to beat the Phillies. Mark will probably join me for the festivities.

Tomorrows plan involve most likely eating and drinking the above mentioned left over pizza and beer while watching football. Missy doesn't get back until late Sunday, so I have the whole day tomorrow to myself as well. As my mom put it, it'll be my last weekend of freedom for the next 20 years or so. Kind of an odd thing to think about.

Other than that, there isn't much else to report. Hope everyone has a great weekend, I know that's my plan!

I'm A Loser

October 20, 2009

Title courtesy of The Beatles.

Well, I'm not personally a loser... but all of New York sports teams were in the past 48 hours. The Giants get nailed by the Saints (not that I care, I'm not a Giants fan, and I picked the Saints by 3.5 in the football pool), the Jets lose to the Bills in OT (And throw like a handful of interceptions in the process), the Yankees lose in extra innings (seriously, Joe Girardi, who takes a pitcher out after he gets 2 outs in an inning?!) and the Rangers get crushed by the Sharks (snapping a 7 game win streak, and giving up 7 goals, 6 unanswered in the process). Ouch, to say the least, right? Kind of sucks. Here's to hoping the Yankees can recover tonight and take a 3-1 lead in the ALCS. Sorry to all you Angels fans out there... but this blog bleeds pinstripes... and the Jets gang green... as well as... Blueshirts (nickname for the Rangers, in case you couldn't tell) blue...

Other than that, not much to report. Still loving the hell out of the new laptop and iPhone. Still waiting on my money from PayPal for the old iPhone... and that's about it...

Nothing new on the pregnancy front other than looking at daycare facilities and being shocked that they cost almost as much as a mortgage payment every month!

Alright, back to catching up on the DVR before the Yankees game...

Let's go Yanks and C.C. Sebathia!

Rotten Apples

October 16, 2009

Title courtesy of Alice In Chains, who shockingly enough, released a new album recently with a new lead singer, since Layne Staley passed away way earlier in the decade. I actually saw them open up for Velvet Revolver, which was awesome. The new guy sounded just like Staley. It was also kind of weird, and I'm sure I've said this already before, and most likely here, but Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots (he was the lead singer of Velvet Revolver at the time, before he went back to STP) along with bands like Soundgarden, Nirvana and of course the great Pearl Jam were all sort of responsible for Guns N Roses and all the other hair metal bands of the 80s downfall. And lets just admit it, Velvet Revolver is basically Guns N Roses without the crazy of Axl Rose. Weird scene, but great show.

Anyway... and that's a big anyway segue...

Nothing about Apple is rotten, at least not to me. I have definitely done my part as a good consumer this week of any and all things Apple related. I ordered a new 15" MacBook Pro for myself last week and it got delivered on Wednesday. In fact, I'm typing this entry on my awesome new laptop. I got it for a few reasons, that I shall detail now:

1) My only computer at home was my work laptop, which doesn't belong to me. So I had all kinds of personal stuff on it, like pictures, videos, music, Quicken info, etc. Not that I have plans to leave my job anytime soon (its the furthest thought from my mind right now) but I, and especially Missy, feel better if all of my personal stuff is not on my work computer. So, I got the Mac, and I transferred all of said info onto it. The work laptop now only has work data!

2) With a child on the way I wanted a computer that would be good for archiving said young babies life, and a Mac with iPhoto and iMovie are perfect for that.

3) I just wanted a new Mac. I've been without one since my trust old PowerBook G4's video blew on me some two years ago or so.

Now, I'm back in the Mac fold and loving it. It's taking a little get used to using one again, but its like riding a bike, you never truly forget how to use one. And, its pretty damn cool, powerful, fast, and just overall great. I love it!

I also got something off of my Apple wish list this week as well. A new iPhone 3GS! I was going to ask my parents for one for my birthday at the end of November, but by some stroke of luck (or just some masterful picking) I won the weekly football pool I've been playing in since the beginning of the season. Its run out of the office where my dad, brother and aunt all work (I used to work there too). It's $5 to enter, and my winnings this week was a nice $240 (I was tempted to blow it all on pudding, but I thought better of it!) so I went out and got the phone for myself. The very next day I put my old iPhone, the original 2G one with only 8 GB of storage on eBay and it sold within two hours for the Buy It Now price of $200. So all told, I still come out on top through all of this. Not a bad week for Apple purchases. So why did the stock go down for the past two days? (I realize the two are nowhere's near related!)

What else is going on? Going to have a busy weekend, I think. After my usual Saturday morning ritual we'll be going to Home Depot to order carpet for the baby's room, and a window treatment as well. I'll be sure to post pics of the fully carpeted and window treated room as soon as I can. Once the carpet is in, Missy's dad can help us put in new closet doors. After that we'd like to change out the lighting fixture and put in a ceiling fan. And, while someone is in the attic I really want to run a Cat-6 data cable from the spare bedroom where Missy's PC is located down into the downstairs area so I can wire in Missy's computer. She was using a wireless card in her desktop, but its starting to stink and the few replacement cards I've tried don't even get picked up by Windows. So I'm going with the old standard of just hard wiring the thing in. That'll help, I hope.

We're also going to have dinner with our new next door neighbors. They moved in sometime over the summer, and just had a baby at the beginning of September. Their names? Matthew and Alisa... while we're Matthew and Melissa... weird, right? It should be fun getting to know them a little better I think. It'll be nice to make new friends too.

Other than that, I'm sure there will be plenty else to keep us busy this weekend, or at least me.

Have a great weekend people!
